USTFCCCA Honors Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Both Alaska Nanook men's and women's cross country teams earned 2011 Division II All-Academic Cross Country status as announced by the U.S. Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association this week.

Alaska's women were one of 124 schools recognized with the honor, combining for a 3.61 grade-point average: the highest among the Great Northwest Athletic Conference schools named to the list. The men's team was among 80 institutions named, posting a cumulative GPA of 3.31.

Western State (Rocky Mountain Atheltic Conference) swept the Men's and Women's Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year titles.

The announcment marks the fifth time under head coach Scott Jerome that the Alaska squads garnered the national recognition for their excellence in the classroom.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have compiled a score (finished at least five runners) at their respective NCAA regional championship.
