Nanooks Crowned GNAC Men's Cross Country Academic Team Champions

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks were crowned the 2010-11 Great Northwest Athletic Conference's men's cross country academic team champions with a cumulative 3.38 grade point average: the highest team average among the league's seven men's sports.

Seattle Pacific, who edged three-time defending champion Northwest Nazarene for the GNAC Academic All-Sports title, posting the best team GPA in four sports, including a record GPA in women's cross country (3.74). SPU won the men's overall crown with team titles in men's basketball, men's soccer and men's track and field as well one for women's cross country. NNU's ousted SPU's for the women's overall title with wins in women's volleyball and soccer.

It marked the third straight year Alaska's men were tops academically among their conference foes and the seventh time for the men's program in the 10-year history of the league.

The Nanooks past GNAC academic team victories by other sports include three for women's cross country in 2002-03, 2003-04, 2005-06 and one for women's volleyball in 2009-10.
