Alaska high school track and field athletes posted several personal records at meets during the week of May 11.
Novah Schmidt (Sitka) ran 12:40.30 in the girls' 3200 meters at the Capital City Invitational on May 15, improving from her previous best of 13:42.60 set in May 2026. The freshman ranks #32 in Alaska and #10 among state freshmen, finishing 4th of 14 competitors. Schmidt also set personal records in the 1600 meters (6:14.88, improved from 6:16.80) and 800 meters (2:48.38, improved from 2:55.25) at the same meet.
Leonidas Taualo-Tasi (Juneau-Douglas) threw 49-5 in the boys' shot put at the Capital City Invitational on May 15, improving from his previous mark of 41-3.25 set in April 2026. The sophomore won the event with 34 competitors and ranks #6 in Alaska and #1 among state sophomores. Taualo-Tasi also set a personal record in the discus (115-0.5, improved from 96-5) at the meet.
Jakob Preisler (Petersburg) ran 11.63 in the boys' 100 meters at the Capital City Invitational on May 15, improving from his previous best of 12.42 set in April 2026. The junior finished 2nd of 50 competitors and ranks #26 in Alaska and #4 among state juniors. Preisler also set a personal record in the shot put (31-7, improved from 29-10.75) at the same meet.
Shiloh Zichko (Soldotna) ran 13.17 in the girls' 100 meters at the SOHI Mini Meet on May 14, improving from her previous best of 13.53. The junior finished 2nd of 20 competitors and ranks #13 in Alaska and #1 among state juniors.
Isaac Evison (Ketchikan) ran 10:47.76 in the boys' 3200 meters at the Capital City Invitational on May 15, improving from his previous best of 11:00.42. The sophomore finished 3rd of 20 competitors and ranks #50 in Alaska and #15 among state sophomores.
Sophia Cotta (Petersburg) ran 12:44.80 in the girls' 3200 meters at the Capital City Invitational on May 15, improving from her previous best of 13:38.24 set in April 2026. The sophomore finished 6th of 14 competitors and ranks #37 in Alaska and #7 among state sophomores. Cotta also set a personal record in the 1600 meters (6:20.63, improved from 6:30.00) at the meet.
Royce Borst (Skagway) cleared 6-3 in the boys' high jump at the Capital City Invitational on May 15, improving from his previous best of 6-2. The senior won the event with 12 competitors and ranks #1 in Alaska and #1 among state seniors, setting a Skagway High School record.
