Cross Country Team Celebrates Season, Hands Out Hardware

FAIRBANKS, AK - In celebration of the individual and team successes during the 2010 season, the Alaska Nanooks men's and women's cross country teams held an ice cream social last week and handed out the individual awards.

Sophomore Tyler Kornfield was named the men's most valuable runner, while the seven women who represented the Blue and Gold at the 2010 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships, including Raphaela Sieber, Theresia Schnurr, Jana Benedix, Heather Edic, Crystal Pitney, Kinsey Laine, and Aurelia Korthauer all garnered MVP accolades.

Kornfield was the men's top finisher in all five races he competed in, including second and third place finishes in dual-meets against Northwest Nazarene and Seattle Pacific for the Alaska Nanook Invitational.

For the women, the seven participants that ran at the GNAC Championships combined for a fourth place finish to tie the program record. The women's squad finished fourth in 1997 (PacWest Conference) and 2002.

Tux Seims and Kinsey Laine were named the Most Improved runners and the Teammates of the Year, as voted on by the student-athletes, were Frederik Bak and Jana Benedix.
