It's hard to believe it, but midseason is already upon us, and we are seeing new names climb the leaderboards. Check out these recent athletes who have made their way to the top of the state!
Boys
Frederick Millen is your current state leader in both the 100m and 200m. This past weekend at the Chugiak vs. West Dual Meet, Millen clocked a 22.57 in the 200m to take the win and the #1-ranked time in the state. The Chugiak High School sophomore continues to dominate as the season progresses.
Right next to Millen is his teammate, Ahmir Walker, who ran 22.95 to place second in the same event. Walker, a sophomore, has climbed to 2nd in the 200m and 5th in the 100m so far in Alaska this season.
Weston Roberts of Kodiak High School showed his strength in the middle-distance events during the Kodiak Tri Meet. Roberts won the 800m title in 2:03.61, later returning to the track to take the victory in the 1600m in 4:37.52. The Kodiak senior is your current 1600m leader for the 2026 season.
The multi-time cross-country champion, Katahdin Staples, showed he can also perform on the track. This past weekend, the East Anchorage junior took the 3200m win at the Service vs East Dual Meet in a time of 9:39.14. Staples leads the state in this event and is the first Alaskan athlete this year to dip under 10 minutes.
Johven Chanhtaseng, the standout horizontal jumper from West Anchorage High School, showcased his strength in the triple jump this past weekend. The junior recorded a mark of 41-2.50 to win the Chugiak vs. West Dual Meet and take the top mark in the event statewide so far. Chanhtaseng also ranks 3rd in the long jump.
Girls
Anna Green continues her strong season in the sprints, running 26.00 to win the 200m at the South vs. Eagle River Dual Meet. The South Anchorage senior ranks top two in both sprint events.
Freshman Maddison Kukuk of Chugiak High School delivered an impressive performance at the Chugiak vs West Dual Meet 3200m. Kukuk ran 11:44.73 to take the title and dominate the field. The freshman is an early standout and the top-ranked 3200m runnner in Alaska.
Autumn Larson dipped under 50 seconds this past weekend in the long hurdles. The Chugiak sophomore clocked 49.82 to win the 300m hurdles at the Chugiak vs. West Dual Meet and is in the top 3 in both the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles.
Senior Emilee Anderson of South Anchorage High School ruled the ring this past weekend at the South vs. Eagle River Dual Meet. Anderson recorded a 115-5 throw in the discus and 35-2.25 in the shot put to win both field events and climb the rankings to lead the state in the discus.
Amelia Dempsey, the junior from Chugiak High School, rounded out the group with a strong showing in the triple jump. Dempsey took the victory with a mark of 35-8.75 at the Chugiak vs. West Dual Meet and now leads Alaska in the triple jump.
