FAIRBANKS, AK - The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's cross country teams got to preview the NCAA West Region course Saturday as they ran at the Western Washington University Cross Country Classic, placing 10th overall in the men's and women's team standings.
The Alaska women were paced by
Jana Benedix, who finished the 6-kilometer race in 44th overall with a 24:09.4 course time. Senior
Aurelia Korthauer was the second Nanook to finish, crossing the tape in 25:28.0 for 69th place. Other finishers for Alaska included
Alyson McPhetres (72nd, 25:41.9),
Heidi O'Connor-Brook (88th, 26:22.3),
Morgan Bender (99th,
26:57.2),
Megan Thompson (110th,
28:57.2) and
Kate Bennett (118th,
31:21.2).
On the men's side, rookie Tux Seims paced the Blue and Gold with a 10k time of 34:46.1 (60th). Andrew Arnold (78th, 35:41.0), Joseph DeWilde (91st, 36:27.1), Cody Priest (94th, 36:36.6), Frederik Bak (96th, 36:44.6), Wyatt Mayo (104th, 37:36.9), and Dave Apperson (108th, 37:52.2) rounded out the Nanooks that completed the race.
Both teams return to Fairbanks to train for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships being held next month (Nov. 6) in Yakima, Wash. and hosted by the Central Washington Wildcats.
