Catching Up With Kinsey Laine

The Alaska Nanooks are just as busy in the off-season as they are during their respective sports seasons working, working out, taking classes, etc. We will catch up with and feature one Nanook student-athlete each week throughout the summer for a quick Q&A. Here's an inside look at swimmer and women's cross country runner Kinsey Laine:

Fill in the Blanks....
I dream of a career as a teacher and swim coach.
If I wasn't a swimmer, I would be a cross country runner.
The best moment in a race, is when you come from behind and out-touch the person in the lane next to you.

Everything Else...
Sum yourself up in one sentence: I am a passionate person who is dedicated to the sports I'm involved in, my studies, my goals, and the people I love.
Goal for next season: I want to be an asset on both the cross country and swim teams by training smart, staying relaxed and focused at competitions, and supporting my teammates.
Greatest asset to the team: I love pushing my limits and encouraging my teammates to do the same.
What UAF sporting event do you enjoy attending the most? It may sound strange, because it isn't a spectator sport, but I love watching rifle matches. The half second between the time the shooters pull the trigger and when you can see their score on the screen is extremely stressful.
Dream car? 1991 Subaru Legacy Wagon
How long can you hold your breath under water? haha... right now? Probably not even one minute.

This is your first year doing two sports...

What made you decide to do another sport? I want to become a better athlete and I think that training for cross country will not only improve my running, but my swimming as well.
How long have you been running? I ran track in middle school, but I haven't been on a running team since then.
