Two Runners Named To CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 First Team

FAIRBANKS, AK – Alaska Nanook cross country student-athletes Einar Often and Theresia Schnurr have been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District men's and women's track and field/cross country teams, respectively.

A graduate student from Trynset, Norway, Often completed the requirements for his Master's degree in Resource and Applied Economics last month with a 3.9 grade-point average and expects to finish his MBA in December.

On the trails this season, Often recorded two top-10 finishes taking sixth and eighth in UAF's home meets against Central Washington. He also garnered Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honors for the second straight season.

A dual-sport athlete, Often had a solid season on the snow covered trails helping the Nanooks capture their fourth straight Nordic Cup and finishing 12th at the Central Collegiate Ski Association Championships in the 10 kilometer classic race. His peers voted him the men's skiing Teammate of the Year.

Schnurr, a sophomore from Buhlertal, Germany, was near perfect in the classroom with a 3.98 GPA in her pursuit of a physics degree.

She was a stalwart on the trails in the fall, winning three of the five meets she raced in and earning Most Valuable Runner. She also garnered a spot on the GNAC All-Academic team.

Following the cross country season, Schnurr continued to contribute to the Nanooks successes on the ski trails. She contributed to Alaska's fourth straight Nordic Cup title and landed a pair of top-ten finishes at the CCSA Championships en route to All-CCSA Second Team honors.

Often and Schnurr are now forwarded to the national ballot and are eligible to receive CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American honors, which will be announced in June.
