A special and unique 3200 meter race has been setup for the 3 elite high school distance runners on Friday at the front end of the meet with an elite co-ed race scheduled for 1 PM Alaska Time (5 PM ET/2 PM PT). The Nike Cross Nationals champion Allie Ostrander (Kodiak AK) will be getting a near full lap head start on the USA Junior Cross Country champion Conner Mantz (Sky View UT) and the New Balance Nationals Indoor 2 mile runner-up Levi Thomet (Kodiak AK).

Ostrander is one of the nation's fastest returning girls 2 milers having run 10:03 for 3200 meters last spring, while both Thomet (8:48) and Mantz (8:56) both have PR's well under 9 minutes to be considered among the best boys in the nation for the event.

The race will be setup as a Battle of the Sexes chase with Ostrander going to get nearly a full lap head start on Thomet and Mantz, while it will be the two boys job to see if they can run Ostrander down on the final lap. Based on their PR's, the race should setup to come down to the very end to see who crosses the finish line first! Both Ostrander and the duo of Thomet and Mantz will also have pace setters to help set a quick early pace to go for some fast times indoors at The Dome in Anchorage, Alaska.

Ostrander ran 10:17 in last year's Big C Relays racing solo with the girls. What will she run this year being chased by Thomet and Mantz. Meanwhile, Thomet ran 9:09 in the 2014 race, but will look to run sub 9 for the first time on Alaska soil with Mantz pushing him along and the incentive to chase after Ostrander by race's end.

Since all 3 are skipping the opportunity to run fast this weekend in Arcadia with Ostrander and Thomet staying put in Alaska, while Mantz was convinced to make the trip up to Utah, this untraditional race format should encourage all to run fast and push a steady pace throughout.
